Herolds Bay beach is not to far out of George, it is 18,2 Km from George central which is only a 20 min drive. It is a very spacious and safe beach with life guards keeping an eye out to ensure that nothing bad happens. There are very tidy bathroom facilities and showers to rinse off any sand before leaving back home. There are also food stands that sell delicious snacks like burgers, pizzas and fresh fish & chips! They also sell cold beverages including slush puppies and of course all sorts of ice-cream. Nothing better than enjoying a snack and drink while soaking up the sunlight next to the beach.
Unfortunately no dogs are aloud on the beach, so they will have to join the family on another trip. Herolds Bay beach is very big and has plenty of space for everyone, especially during the season times. There is a very large rock pool that gets quite deep and is very refreshing to swim in. Don’t forget your goggles because there is a lot of small fishes to spot in the pool. The rock pool is also wheelchair friendly, so anyone can get wet.
A little further down from the giant rock pool are braai areas and more bathroom facilities. The nice thing about these braai areas, is that there is another smaller rock pool to enjoy and to keep an eye on the kids while relaxing at your picnic spot. If you are lucky, you might even spot some dolphins or even whales, for they do roam in the South coast and can be spotted from the beach!
Remember that Herolds Bay beach in George is a place for everyone to enjoy, so please keep it tidy. Everything we leave behind effects the natural echo system. Enjoy with respect.
