Swartvlei beach is situated 5km from Sedgefield off the N2. It is a beautiful beach with lots of space for everyone to enjoy! Because of the birdlife that is found here like, Oyster Catchers, dogs are not aloud. Here are no life guards, so please swim with caution as there may be currents. Over all it is safe to swim here. Swartvlei beach is in good condition and has bathroom facilities as well as showers to rinse yourself off afterwards. There is also a boat-launching site, but may only be used by those who have valid permits. There are lots of trash bins at the parking area, so please use them and keep the environment clean.
You can take a nice long stroll to Gerickes Point, preferably during low tide. It is safer and easier to get there and back. There is a very nice fishing spot and lots of sea shells to pick up along the way. If you are into exploring the life beneath the waters, be sure to take with your snorkeling gear! Gerickes Point has a few spots that are perfect for snorkeling. Absolutely breath taking and lots to see. The best time to snorkel in the tidal pools is during the spring low tide. This is when the water is the clearest and it is similar to swimming in an enclosed aquarium. The tidal pools are ideal for beginners and and underwater photography with many of the colorful marine life living under the overhanging rock shelves.
For those who would like to enjoy the beautiful beach of Sedgefield and everything that surrounds it for more than one day, can camp just a few hundred meters away from the beach! Swartvlei Caravan Park is situated just down the road from the and beach, next to the lagoon. It is absolutely beautiful and very spacious green field. They have very neat bathroom facilities for hot showers, and camp spots that have electricity available. You can also go fishing because you are right next to the waters!
