Outeniqua family market :We are open every Saturday from 8am until 2pm. With more than 150 food and craft stalls, we can guarantee you that there is something for everyone! We also offer live entertainment, lots of undercover seating, excellent ablution facilities and tons of secure parking. And for the kids, there’s a Boere train ride, pedal cars, ponycycle rides, face painting, bunnies, sand-art and a massive play park!

Our History:

After a journey of two-and-a-half years, and significant investment from local business people, the vision is now a reality. The Outeniqua Family Market opened to the public on Saturday 19 November 2011.

The five-hectare site lies opposite the Garden Route Mall at the George junction on the N2. Visitors to the Outeniqua Family Market will find more than 150 food and craft stalls spread across a total trading area of 1 260m².

The ancient name Outeniqua means ‘the land where honey comes from’. This changed on 19 November 2011 when the Outeniqua Family Market opened, providing a new shopping destination that created a new heart for George. From that day onwards, Outeniqua is the land where honey, cheese, veggies, pies, cakes, fruit and other delicious foods comes from.

Released as part of the 2021 edition of the Most Loved Local Report, powered by Santam, Outeniqua Family Market joins an elite list of 12 businesses that came out tops in a nationwide survey.

For families, the market is particularly appealing with a variety of activities for children, such as a Boere train ride, pedal cars, face painting, a play park, and even ponycycle rides. The name “Outeniqua” itself, meaning “the land where honey comes from,” reflects the market’s dedication to showcasing the best local food, such as honey, cheese, pies, cakes, fruits, and vegetables.
