Koumashoek Hiking Trail in Mossel Bay is a 14.7 km 6 hour route with self-issue permits and a rough map. This trail passes through unspoilt, exceptionally beautiful fynbos in the mountains west of the Robinson Pass. The trail has steep climbs and is very strenuous and must not be undertaken by the unfit – take your own water and beware of sudden mist.
Starting Point: A style next to a green gate opposite a picnic table in Robinson Pass.
Ending Point: The trail ends at the bottom of the pass, so if you have left your car at the top of the pass where the trail starts (3 km from the ending point), you will have to walk back up the pass. Please note that the Attaquashoek Hiking Trail is currently closed.
From the N2, take the Oudtshoorn turn-off to Hartenbos and drive 18.9km to the top of the Robinson Pass where the trail starts. Park at the old quarry just below the top of the pass.
The Outeniqua Nature Reserve, part of Cape Nature, is responsible for this area and is very helpful.
