Please note that you'll need to get a fresh water fishing license from SANPARKS. Below we have some useful Carp Fishing Tips and where the best spots are to go Carp Fishing.

Carp Fishing Spots(Garden Route):

George Dam

Groenvlei Lake

Hartebeeskuil Dam

Carp Fishing Tips:

Carp Secret 1 - How important are carp hooks?
One of the good Carp Tactics to make sure you use is that you should make sure you use the strongest equipment that you can at all times. This includes strong end tackle, mainlines and hooks. This is particularly important if you are fishing in a weeded area or you plan to catch rather large fish. You must be able to have faith in the durability of the gear you use. It is important to always have a sharp hook on hand. If you are not sure whether it is sharp enough, you should probably replace it to be on the safe side or you can use a high quality hook sharpener, one of many good Carp Fishing Secrets that not a lot of anglers share freely. Even if you have just purchased hooks, there is a slight chance that they might be blunt.

Carp Secret 2 - How do you prepare for a Carp Fishing trip?
To make the most of your carp fishing adventure, try to plan ahead for anything that could come up. If you arrive prepared, you will have a more enjoyable and productive time. One of the Tactics that people often over look is that you need more than just a bottom bait if the fish happen to be swimming higher in the water. You also need to have some floating bait with you (Zigs). Also, be sure you come dressed for the weather. This includes the right clothes, shoes, etc. If you aren't comfortable, you are not going to enjoy your day on the water and if you are wet even less

Carp Secret 3 - How important is location when Carp Fishing.
Location, just like timing is everything when you are fishing and one of the most important Tactics to remember. This is really true since you cannot catch carp that are not where you are fishing. Since this is the case you really need to keep your eyes on the water to see where the fish are. However, if you really want to catch a large quantity of fish, you need to keep your eyes open early in the morning. You will quickly see where the fish are coming up to feed, but also know where to cast out your line. To improve your chances of seeing the fish use Polaroid glasses which have been designed to remove the surface glare off of the water. This is one of those little known Carp Secrets.

Another great tool when finding the correct location to do some Carp Fishing is a fish finder. It shows you how deep the water is, where structures are that carp might be hiding in and underwater objects that you might want to avoid and it can even show you the carps themself which is always a very nice thing to see.

Carp Secret 4 - What good Carp Tactics are there for fishing in the margins?
A couple of the biggest carp in South Africa were caught within meters of the bank, it’s the biggest and sometimes the only real feature available or reachable. Every dam, lake or river has margins to fish and all are a great source of food for carp.

Try to change things. Carp do form habits but they are still wild animals meaning that similar baiting and/or fishing styles and areas where you fish will make them wary. Try washing out your baits to make them look older, add natural liquid or powder combinations and attractors into your fishing bait or try fishing with baits of different shapes, sizes and colors to help ‘catch’ fish off-guard.

Carp Secret 5 - How do you use Solid PVA Bags for Carp Fishing?
One of the best Carp Secrets when fishing with Solid PVA Bags, use the PVA to add a pop-up on the hook to have the hook bait settle on top of the loose baits in your PVA bag, you should also add a small piece of tungsten putty about an inch from the hook and as soon as the PVA melts away your hook bait will be sitting nicely on the top and right in the middle of the contents of the bag. When the carp finds the baited area the first thing that it will find is the hook bait sitting on top. Always test your rig first in shallow water to see if everything is working the way it should. The major part of the rig will remain hidden under the other baits so everything is concealed nicely.

Carp Secret 6 - Can you train carp to eat in a Specific Area?
Thinking that fish are going to swim right at you when you decide to go out to the lake may seem like a crazy idea. In actuality this is a little bit crazy, but you need to treat each fishing area with its own features differently to guarantee your fishing trip is a good one. Even when you have gone out to the lake everyday for weeks and left food for the fish, they still may not come to the area when you are ready to fish. The good news is when you are fishing for carp and are using this feeding method; you are training the fish to come to a specific area more often as they are starting to learn that it is a good spot to get food. You will have a leg up on other fisherman and not have to be concerned about trying to lure the fish into an area they do not normally go to for food.
