9km east of George on the N2 to Knysna. This little cove is world renowned for surfing, especially during winter. Great for fishing, swimming and has a tidle pool.

The Old Oak Slave Tree in George, is a ancient English oak in front of the Old Library. It is one of the original trees planted by landrost Van Kervel when he laid out George Town in 1811, and is the largest specimen in the southern hemisphere. Known as the 'slave tree" because of the old chain embedded in the tree trunkand the old lock attached to it. The lock dates from 1890 and were used to secure the roller of the tennis courts. George Museum is the theme of the flourishing timber industry where old timber tools, implements, a yellow-wood woodcutter's cottage and an outdoor selection of labeled indigenous trees are on display. The fairy painting by Ruby Reeves, large collection of mechanical instruments and massive printing presses are fascinating.

A braai and picnic area right by the beach and fantastic tidal pools of Herolds Bay. Ideal for the family day out! Activities include swimming, fishing, braaing and sunbathing.

The Stella Maris Catholic Chapel situated on the Herolds Bay beachfront is a lovely little historic building. Founded in 1933, renovated in 1983, and finally restored in 2007.

In season, from June to November, the 65 km Whale Route along the greater Mossel Bay coastline is superbly suited to view whales. Four species are seen along this route, of which Southern Right Whales are the most commonly sighted when they come into Herolds Bay to calve. There are however also Humpback, Bryde's and Killer Whales frequenting the route. Herolds Bay also forms part of Four species of whales frequent to calve.

Only 15 kilometres from George, the bay literally nestles in a sheltered rocky cove with a wide stretch of beach and inviting waters. It has two tidal pools,life gaurds, is wheelchair friendly, has braai areas and toilets. Popular for fishing, surfing and whale watching.

Saasveld Pass and the Old George/Knysna road is a historic route with old bridges and lots of scenery. The bridges date from the late 1800's and very early 1900's. One of our national monuments...
