Motorist attacked in peak traffic in Albert Street

GEORGE NEWS - A George woman had a frightening experience last Wednesday afternoon when an unknown man jumped into her car at a red traffic light and choked her with the seat belt. He also robbed her of all her cash.

The victim had just stopped at the red traffic light in Albert Street, opposite the garage, around 15:30 when the suspect jumped in behind the driver's seat, grabbed the seat belt and pulled it tightly around her neck. He instructed her to drive off when the light turned green while emptying her bag on the back seat and taking all her cash.

According to Sergeant Riëtte Esterhuyse, from the George Police, the suspect jumped out at the next red traffic light and ran away.
"He wore gloves and a black top with a hoodie pulled over his face, making it impossible for the victim to identify him, but he sounded young. The victim has bruising on her neck," said Esterhuyse.

George station commander, Brigadier Phindelwa Mavakala, said the community of George must be alert. "Please take preventative measures like locking the vehicle's doors while driving and be alert at traffic lights and stop signs. Do not leave valuable objects like cellphones, handbags and money lying around in the vehicle."

Anyone with any information can contact Detective Sergeant Songwiqi Patrick on 044 803 4762.
