Situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, Harkerville forest is the ideal location for recreational mountain-biking to suit all levels or riders.
The relatively easy gradients and diversity of the rides offer some of the finest cycling in the Southern Cape. All four start and finish at the Garden of Eden, on the N2, where permits must be obtained. Alternative access roads are available, starting from the Forestry Office, Kranshoek Road Gate, or the Kranshoek Picnic Site. Permits may also be obtained at the Kranshoek Road Gate

Yellow Route (14km) : An easy ride along reasonably level gravel service roads – perfect for the not-so-fit. This may be the only ride permissible when the other forest trails are closed due to wet conditions.

Blue Route (12km) : An easy option, with sections of singletrack, the route meanders through the forest before looping back through a glade of giant redwood trees planted in 1927.

Green Route (15km) : An intermediate, circular route passing a shady swimming hole making this a great ride for a hot day. A southern loop bangs onto a breathtaking view of the rugged coastline before returning through a , a delightful section of off-road track which passes through some tall, coastal forest with a number of the finest examples of hard pear.

Red Route (24km) : this tougher ride must be rated as one of the most scenically diverse MTB trails in SA. Get ready for wicked stretches of singletrack and a vertigo-inducing coastal cruise along towering fynbos cliffs. Two steep downhill sections require due caution while the climbs will get your blood pumping. This route will take anything from 2-4hours, depending on your fitness. An overnight hut allows riders to opt for a two-day forest ride, that must be booked in advance. Keep in mind that heavy rain might cause the routes (except the Yellow option) to be closed.

Come and Canoe down the Goukamma River, 15 minutes from Knysna or Sedgefield and 45 minutes from Plett. You will experience the tranquility and bird life that only the Garden Route can offer. You can canoe all the way to the ocean , it is a round trip of 12km.

Deep sea fishing charters through Knysna heads - all equipment , bait supplied - please bring own refreshments, no alcohol. Trips are from 6am to 14hoo. Groups up to 5 people - minimum 3, you need to have recreation fishing license obtainable @ Post Office. R550,00 pp

Jubilee Creek is a beautiful picnic spot in the Knysna forest.Named after Queen Victoria in 1887,this was the site of much activity during the Millwood gold rush and the evidence can still be seen.Situated alongside a stream, this site is very popular for all, with braai facilities and toilets.The stream is perfect for the children to splash about and there are walks along the river.Hidden in the forest,you might even sight a rare Knysna elephant-one of them was seen here in March 2007!
