Bite & Robertson Brewing Co.

Our Beers

We use only the best quality “locally and internationally sourced ingredients” for our beers and therefore there might be times that not all our products are available, yet we endeavor to try our best from this happening as not to disappoint our loyal followers..!

“Our Beers “are brewed following the revised Vorläufiges Biergesetz of 1993 is a slightly expanded version of the Reinheitsgebot, (the law originated in the city of Ingolstadt in the duchy of Bavaria on 23 April 1516, although first put forward in 1487, [1] concerning standards for the sale and composition of beer, allowing, besides water, malted barley, and hops, for yeast to be used for bottom-fermented beer, and for different kinds of malt, and sugar to be used for top-fermented beer. All ingredients and the process itself are subject to additional regulations.

Thus, German breweries continue to comply with the Biergesetz, often claiming compliance with the Reinheitsgebot even when it is patently incorrect (for example, for wheat beers, which were prohibited by the Reinheitsgebot), using this compliance as a valuable marketing tool.

Unpasteurized, preservative and additive free and available in a 440ml Glass Bottle.

About the Brewery

Although George has historically been the biggest grower of hops in Africa, no craft brewery has ever been established in the town, until now!

Having travelled to Germany, Austria and Switzerland and sampled many excellent varieties of beer, Kevin Robertson in collaboration with his wife, Cheryl and children Courtney, Rachael and Kelly, decided to realize a dream of opening up our own craft brewery – A business which we could be proud of, passionate about and which would buck the trend that had effected businesses since the 2008 recession!

And so the journey began in February 2012.

Although much valuable knowledge was gained from home-brewing books, it was necessary to elicit the help of an expert in this field. An acquaintance suggested we contact “Stephan Meyer” at Clarens Brewery. After a telephonic conversation, he invited us to “Kom maak ’n draai “.

One thousand one hundred kilometers later, Stephan, for three days, imparted as much knowledge as we were able to absorb and agreed to assist us with our venture. His enthusiasm and willingness to help, was most exhilarating and we returned to George elated as well as rather apprehensive at this new prospect. Two additional trips to Clarens were undertaken before we returned with our “Brew House” and 4 months later, with many calls to Stephan, our first batch of beer was brewed …. And promptly disposed of….! Practice makes perfect and eventually a successful batch of “Blonde Ale” materialized.

Licensed on the 21st September 2013, our business is steadily growing. We now strive for excellence in each batch of beer, with attention to detail and using only the best ingredients to produce “Hand Crafted Beer, Naturally”.

Very special thanks to Stephan Meyer of Clarens Brewery, my wife Cheryl and the children, for their insight and support in finally bringing “Robertson Brewing Company” to fruition.

The word “Outeniqua” in the Khoi Language means…

“They who bear honey”

but it will now be changed to…

“Bring me a beer, honey!”
